SHILLONG: Leader of the Opposition Dr Mukul Sangma on Wednesday termed the NPP-led MDA government as a failed government

Talking to media persons, Mukul Sangma slammed the Government  for not keeping its promises after six months in governance and failing to handle the Them Metor issue which spiraled  into an unrest costing the state the perception of being a favorable tourist destination.

Sangma pointed out that  the MDA coalition partners had made tall promises before the general assembly elections including  the lifting of NGT ban on coal mining within six months in power but now six months have passed away but the ban is yet to be lifted.

He also castigated the State Government over its way of handling the Them Metor issue effectively

“There were number of promises that were made based on which they also received a lot of mandate though it is a fractured mandate but they got substantial numbers,” he added.

Stating that promises in a democracy should be the guiding principal of  any party who has the privilege of being in the government and that is the position which is even maintained by the Supreme Court, Dr Sangma said  added that MDA government had not kept what they promised in six months

He also  lambasted the BJP leaders for  their claims that they would deal with the issue and resolve it immediately after the elections.

Blaming the MDA coalition for costing the state its perception of being favorable tourist destination, Dr Sangma said that because of them not being able to handle one small incident a fight between two groups everybody’s business was affected, the economy was affected- the economy particularly of the state where resources always come on the way in creating opportunities, in addressing the concerns of different stakeholders.

He also said that the State Government was found wanting in removing the distress of the farmers of the state even as he added that the Opposition wanted to raise the issue in the floor of the House but it could not be done due to paucity of time

“There has been no intervention from the Government about helping farmers in the last few months,” he said.
