SHILLONG: A two-day e-waste collection drive will be held at State Central Library, on September 28 and 29 to help residents and bulk consumers of Shillong to dispose obsolete electronic wastes as per law.
The special E-waste disposal drive is being organised by Environment Information System Resource Partner (ENVIS), Resource Partner Center, NEHU and M/s Rongjeng Technologies, an E-waste management agency in the Northeast region.
The organisers of the drive said that dumping of electronic items with municipal wastes might be an agent of disaster to environment and it would pollute the ground water.
Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB), Wanshan Kharkrang told reporters residents and bulk consumers in Shillong may bring their obsolete and dead electronic items to dispose at the two-day camp organised on above dates.
“The collected electronic wastes will be channelised to recycling center(s) and the money would be donated to the district administration, to be utilized for developmental and awareness schemes run by the district administration from time to time,” he added.
