SHILLONG: Leader of the opposition Mukul Sangma said on Wednesday the NPP-led MDA government failed to deliver on its “tall promises” in its six months of power.
Talking to media persons, Mukul listed the unfulfilled promises which included lifting the ban on coal mining within six months of forming government.
“Now six months have passed but the ban is yet to be lifted,” he said and lambasted BJP leaders for claiming that they would resolve it.
The former chief minister criticised the government for failing to handle the Them Metor issue that snowballed into a violent protest affecting the state’s image as a favourable tourist destination.
He blamed the coalition for the economic loss to the state following the unrest at Motphran and laid emphasis on collective endeavour in turning around the situation.
Mukul said the state government was found wanting in easing the distress of farmers even as he added that the opposition wanted to raise the issue on the floor of the House but could not due to paucity of time.
“There were a number of promises made (before the Assembly elections) based on which they received a lot of mandate. Though it was a fractured mandate they got substantial numbers,” he added as he maintained that promises in a democracy should be the guiding principal of any party who has the privilege of being in the government.
