SHILLONG: Congress legislator Charles Pyngrope pointed out that though there are qualified local paramedical staff including nurses, laboratory assistants and lab technicians, NEIGRIHMS has appointed majority of such staff from outside the state.
While taking part in the discussion on a resolution related to job opportunities to local youths in the Assembly on Wednesday, Pyngrope said the major concern is that ever since the inception of NEIGRIHMS, the number of skilled people appointed from the region was very few compared to the people from outside the state.
In contrast, Pyngrope cited an example in a hospital in Kolkata where the nurses from the Northeast are employed.
“When asked, the authorities told me that they prefer nurses from the Northeast due to the manner in which they conduct themselves and also for their proficiency in English,” Pyngrope said.
According to the legislator, to say that locals are not qualified would be totally wrong.
