SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said on Thursday there are job vacancies across all categories in various departments.
Sangma was replying to a question on job vacancies by Congress MLA George Lyngdoh.
In the circulated reply, the chief minister said “information is being collected in reply to query on the steps taken to fill up the vacant posts”.
Lyngdoh pointed at the contradiction in Sangma’s statement saying “how does the government know there are vacancies when information is still being collected”.
To this, Sangma said, “Some information has come and some are yet to come in. Some departments have given information and some have not.” He added that collection of information is a huge exercise.
Lyngdoh asserted that the departments should be alert and swift to provide information so that people are aware of the vacancies.
The MLA pointed out that there was delay in seeking approval of posts and no system for updating.
Observing that there are departments with no manpower and that educated youths may get overage, he urged the chief minister to streamline the system. “Not everything is on a standstill as the process for recruitment is on,” Sangma replied.
Congress MLA Mayralborn Syiem maintained that the process should not take too long to which Sangma said, “We will definitely examine the matter.” Replying to a supplementary query by Congress MLA HM Shangpliang, Sangma said there are different processes involved and the government is collecting the latest information.
