Nongpoh/TURA/AMPATI: The District Administration, Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh organised the Poshan Mela on account of Rashtriya Poshan Maah at the St. Paul’s Parish Hall on Friday.
The programme included exhibition by the District Social Welfare, PHE, Health and Education department.
Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, RM Kurbah graced the function as the chief guest attended by students, teachers, anganwadi and health workers, officials from different departments and the.
The chief guest said the aim of the programme is to create awareness and to reach to every household in the district with the message of nutrition, particularly for children during their growing and formative age.
In Tura, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh also reminded that the month of September is observed as the Nutrition Month (Poshan Maah) and hence various programmes are being organised in all blocks and villages at Anganwadi Centres in which the mothers, adolescent girls and children were sensitize about the importance of nutrition in their daily life during a meeting held in Tura on Friday.
Informing the gathering that about 70 per cent of women and children are anaemic, he insisted the principals and teachers to encourage children in their respective schools to eat healthy homemade food and to avoid and reduce junk and packed foods as much as possible.
South West Garo Hills also organised a day-long Poshan or Nutrition Mela simultaneously at Betasing and Chimite, also known as Kata Beel at Nogorpara on Friday where events such as recipe competition and healthy baby competition.
