TURA: West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh has appealed to all residents of the district to keep their respective surroundings free from garbage and practice waste segregation of domestic wastes by maintaining two dustbins, one for collecting organic wastes like vegetable and fruit peels and paper debris and the other for inorganic insoluble waste materials like plastic packets, bottles and others.
In this regard, all developments committees are being requested to conduct cleaning drives regularly in keeping up with the ongoing special campaign of ‘Swatchhta Hi Seva,’ in their respective localities.
The DC has also made a fervent appeal to the people not to throw garbage and litter the roads and public places like parks, recreational places and markets.
He also requested all Development Committees of the localities to continue their cleaning drives in their locality from time to time and also to organise special cleaning drives on October 2 to mark the Swachhta Hi Sewa Campaign in the district.
TMB CEO, S B Marak also requested citizens to segregate plastic wrappers and bottles separately since plastic wrappers would be used for making road construction while bottles would be used for constructing community toilets, etc. She also informed that organic waste can be used for home composting which would benefit kitchen gardening in every household.
