Pakistani helicopter violates Indian air space
Jammu: A Pakistani helicopter violated Indian air space on Sunday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch sector but a Defence Ministry spokesman said it was likely a civilian chopper. Spokesman Lt Colonel Devender Anand said here that the Pakistani chopper, flying very high, committed the violation at 12.10 p.m. Indian troops fired at the helicopter with small arms, he said. The helicopter withdrew into Pakistani territory after five minutes, the spokesman added. Earlier reports said the helicopter belonged to the Pakistan Army. (IANS)
Soldier injured in mine blast near LoC in JK’s Poonch
Jammu: An Army personnel was injured in a landmine explosion near the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, officials said. The soldier hit a landmine during patrolling near a forward post in Jhallas sector and got injured in the explosion at around 9.30 am, they said. He was shifted to Army base hospital in Udhampur for treatment, the officials said. As part of the counter-infiltration strategy, the Army uses landmines to plug the possible infiltration routes to stop terrorists to enter into this side and sometimes the explosive devices get dislocated due to rains causing the accidental blasts, they said. Meanwhile, the officials said a live mortar shell was found lying in an open field near the International Border in Hiranagar sector of Kathua district. It was defused by the bomb disposal squad, they added. The mortar fired by Pakistan some time back had failed to explode and was noticed by a villager in his field on this side of the fencing, the officials said. (PTI)
Army major booked for raping domestic help
New Delhi: An Army Major has been booked for allegedly raping his domestic help in southwest Delhi back in July her husband allegedly committed suicide, the police said on Sunday. They said a case was registered at the Delhi Cantonment police station on September 25 based on a complaint filed by the woman. In her complaint, the woman has alleged that she was raped by the Major on July 12, the same day her husband allegedly killed himself, a senior police officer said. During investigation, police learnt that the woman’s husband had committed suicide in a servant quarter where they used to reside, he said. The woman was working at the Major’s house even after the rape incident, he added. A case has been registered, police said, adding the matter is being probed. (PTI)
Self-styled godman arrested for raping woman
New Delhi: A self-styled godman was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping a woman in Janakpuri, police said. The arrest was made on a complaint by the Delhi Commission for Women after the 24-year-old school teacher had approached it alleging she was raped by Hari Narayan, 41, inside an ashram in Janakpuri in July, they said. Earlier, a female accomplice of Narayan and a colleague of the victim were arrested in connection with the case, police said. The woman had said she went to the ashram on the suggestion of her colleague who told her she would be spiritually healed by Narayan. She claimed that her colleague had accompanied her to the ashram, they said. The woman had told the DCW that she was drugged and raped by Narayan and also molested by his female accomplice. DCW chief Swati Maliwal has urged the women to come forward to report such incidents to the commission through helpline number 181. (PTI)
Scolded for using phone in class, Chhattisgarh girl hangs self
Korba: A 16-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide in a government school in Madhya Pradesh’s Korba district after she was reportedly reprimanded by her teacher for using a mobile phone during class, police said on Sunday. Babli Yadav, a Class IX student, hung herself from a tree in the premises of the government high school in Nonbirra village Saturday afternoon, Dipka station house officer (SHO) Sharad Chandra said. He said that preliminary investigation has revealed that Yadav was spotted by her teacher while she was speaking on her mobile phone during class. “Yadav threw the phone from the class window but the teacher retrieved it and complained to the school principal. She also scolded Yadav,” the SHO said. While Yadav’s father, a farmer, was called to school by the principal to discuss the incident, he could not come due to work commitments, the official said. “Later, when the girl did not reach home after school got over for the day, her brother went looking for her and found her hanging from a tree in the school premises,” he said. A case had been registered and further probe was underway, the SHO added. (PTI)
Man killed for using abusive language
Shahjahanpur: A 40-year-old man was beaten to death by 10 people in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur for allegedly abusing them in an inebriated state, police said on Sunday. The deceased, Bhagwan Das, was using abusive language while passing through the accused persons’ home which made them furious, Superintendent of Police (rural), Subhash Chandra Shakya said. The SP said a case has been registered in this connection against 10 people and five have been sent to jail. (PTI)
