BSP not to ally with Congress in MP, Rajasthan: Mayawati
Lucknow: Accusing the Congress of finishing her party, BSP chief Mayawati on Wednesday ruled out an alliance with the Congress in the coming Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. “The Congress is two steps ahead of the BJP in attempts to finish the BSP. We have decided that the party would not ally with the Congress in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan at any cost,” she said. (IANS)
Court acquits BJP MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa
New Delhi: A Delhi court on Wednesday acquitted Delhi BJP MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa of the charge of defacing a property by putting up election hoardings in 2017. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal granted relief to Sirsa, saying the police failed to prove the charge against him beyond reasonable doubt. According to the FIR filed on February 18 last year, Sirsa had allegedly put up an election hoarding in Rajouri Garden of west Delhi during a bypoll campaign, seeking votes to “preach and support Sikhism”. The FIR was filed under sections of Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act for allegedly defacing the property in public view by writing or marking with ink, chalk, paint or any other material. If convicted, Sirsa could have been punished with a maximum of one-year imprisonment or Rs 50,000 fine or both. (PTI)
UP cop sodomizes minor at police station
Lucknow: An Uttar Pradesh Police constable, posted with the UP100 service in Hathras, has been suspended after he sodomized a minor inside a police station for several days, an officer said on Wednesday. The incident took place in the Chamad Gate police station between September 9 to October 1. The victim is an orphan and was working at a road side eatery when Constable Sanjesh Yadav, 45, operating on PRV 1119 went there to eat and befriended him. He brought the boy to the police station and physically abused him on many occasions, the boy has alleged. He went on leave on October 2, after which the crime was reported by the victim to senior police officers. A probe has been initiated by the Circle Officer (CO) City. A medical examination has been conducted on the victim and an FIR lodged, the official added. Yadav has been booked under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso) and the SC/ST Act, the official said, adding that the accused is on the run and a search is on. The incident comes as a big embarrassment for the state police which is already on the mat for the killing of an Apple executive last week. (IANS)
Pilgrim dies of heart attack in Uttarkashi
Uttarkashi (U’khand): A 57-year-old pilgrim from Mumbai has died of a heart attack in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district, police said. Nilesh Devendra Seth, a resident of Santa Cruz area of Mumbai, was on a pilgrimage to the Yamunotri temple in the Garhwal Himalayas, a police officer said Seth was staying at a hotel in Janki Chatti with his family and fainted on Tuesday night, the officer said. He was rushed to a community health centre in Barkot, where he was declared dead, the officer added. (PTI)
Elephant kills 30-year-old woman in Yavatmal district
Yavatmal (Maha): A 30-year-old woman died after being attacked by an elephant in Yavatmal district of Maharashtra, a forest department official said on Wednesday. After killing the woman Tuesday night, the same pachyderm entered a village in adjoining Wardha district and attacked an elderly man, leaving him injured, he said. The deceased woman was identified as Archana Moreshwar Kulsange (30), a resident of village Chahand under Ralegaon taluka near here. The woman was attacked by the wild elephant when she was collecting cow dung. She died on the spot, the official said. (PTI)
Body of 16-yr-old girl found hanging from tree in UP village
Mainpuri (UP): The body of a 16-year-old girl was found hanging from a tree in Havelia village, police said on Wednesday. The girl, a student of class 11, had reportedly met her boyfriend on Tuesday afternoon while she was returning from her school, said SP Ajay Kumar Rai. The brother of the deceased lodged a complaint against four people, Rai said, adding that three of the four persons were later detained. No injury mark was found on the body, he said. The police are probing all possible angles in the case, the SP added. (PTI)
Rifles looted in attack on policemen in UP, 1 cop injured
Muzaffarnagar: Two motorcycle-borne men allegedly opened fire at police personnel, injuring one seriously, and looted two service rifles from them in Shamli district, police said on Wednesday. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening on Bidoli road under Jhinjhana Police Station, Circle Officer Rajesh Kumar Tiwari said. Home Guard Sanjay and another police personnel, Sansar Singh, were near the Kamalpur checkpost where they intercepted the bike-borne accused, Tiwari said, adding the two men opened fire at them and looted their rifles. Home Guard Sanjay was injured and he was rushed to the hospital in a serious condition, the CO said. On receiving information about the incident senior police officers rushed to the spot and a hunt was launched for the accused. (PTI)
Students harassed in UP
Muzaffarnagar: Two youths allegedly harassed students who were returning from school and also thrashed two people who objected to their behaviour, police said on Wednesday. The incident occurred near Fakhershah Chowk in Kotwali Polcie Station area on Tuesday. A student of Class 12 of returning from school accompanied by two of her friends when the bike-borne accused started harassing them. When two people near them opposed their behaviour, the youths thrashed them, they said. They also slapped the girl, they added. The police registered a case and launched an investigation in the incident. (PTI)
