Sonowal lays foundation of 28 PMGSY roads in Majuli

GUWAHATI: In order to improve the road communication in river island of Majuli, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday laid the foundation s of 28 Pradhan Mantri Garam Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) roads, sanctioned in 2016-17 and 2017-18 financial years, at two separate programmes held in Majuli. A total amount of Rs 59.51 crore is allotted for construction of 76.51 km roads.

Speaking at the programme, the chief minister said that a strong road communication system is a must for development of a nation and therefore, the state government is making concerted efforts to develop the interior roads of the state. Informing that more than Rs 1000 crore has been allocated in the last two years to Majuli, Sonowal said that all steps have been taken to develop Majuli.

Referring to Sabka Sath Sabka Vikash motto of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the chief minister said that all corners of the state are being developed equally and a total of 57 PMGSY roads would be constructed within this year in Majuli. He also directed PWD to complete construction of the roads, laid foundation stone on Saturday, within March 2019.

The total allotted fund for 11 PMGSY roads was Rs 19.81 crore and 17 roads to be built for Rs 39.70 crore under Majuli Development Block. Commissioner and Secretary of PWD Rajesh Kemprai and DC Majuli Deba Prasad Mishra were also present in the programme.
