NONGPOH: Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem on Friday lauded the role played by women organisations in Ri Bhoi as well as other parts of the state in eradicating alcoholism, drugs and other social menace and urged more women to come forward and join the fight against drugs.
The MLA was speaking on the concluding day of a two-day legal programme focusing on rights of women. It was organised by the Meghalaya State Commission for Women in association with the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice and the office of the District Social Welfare Officer. The programme included lectures on different topics like ‘Understanding Gender and Power, Screening of the Impossible Dream’, ‘Women and the Indian Constitution’ and ‘Women and Family Law (marriage, divorce and judicial separation, maintenance, special marriage Act 1954)’.
The MLA hoped that such awareness programme will be held frequently so that women could continue fighting against anti-social activities with adequate knowledge.
