GUWAHATI: Between trying to be on the “hot seat” and finally becoming Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) Season 10’s first crorepati, Guwahati’s Binita Jain’s story so far has been shaped by a never-say-die attitude against the odds.

A mother of two, Binita has seen life from the edge, especially after militants abducted her husband in 2003. But she never looked back and instead mustered strength to move on in life as well as fulfill an 18-year-old dream.

As a matter of fact, Binita, a teacher by profession, had left actor-host Amitabh Bachchan and the audience in the sets of KBC in Mumbai awestruck with her intelligible approach, which saw her go almost all the way before she chose not to take the question for the jackpot (Rs 7crore) and quit. Later, when she was given a chance to attempt an answer to that question (Who invented the first stock ticker?), she ticked the right box then too.

Now after bagging a cheque for Rs 1crore, the Athgaon resident is back in her city. Addressing reporters here on Sunday afternoon, Binita said that “one must keep trying till the goal is achieved”.

“I had failed many times to be on the hot seat over the past 18 years. But I never gave up. So you really have to keep trying till you achieve your goal,” Binita said.

Asked how nervous she was when she took questions from Big B (Amitabh Bachchan), she said, “I was nervous because he was there but at the same time it was he who helped me gain my composure and confidence.”

While she has admitted that luck also played a role in her feat, but once the final round was confirmed, Binita had to prepare by reading online.

Viewers of the show would recollect that Binita had felicitated the superstar with a phulam gamosa (traditional Assamese towel) and also gifted him with a box of one of the costliest teas to be sold in the auction from a garden in Dibrugarh.

The 47-year-old said she would use a portion of the money to support underprivileged children. “The money would be primarily spent on setting up a dental clinic for my son, as such a facility requires substantial investment. But a portion of it will certainly be used for a social cause. I want to support underprivileged children and do something for their education,” she revealed.
