SHILLONG: The residents in Goralane are furious over the snail’s pace of the construction work of the less than half a kilometer road between Nongrimmaw and Lumsohra near Umpling Road (popularly known as Goralane Road)

This link road between Laitumkhrah, Nongrim Hills, Umpling and beyond was lying in a decrepit condition over the last 8-10 months.  After causing suffering to the residents for long, the construction work of the road was finally begun this year.

However, the sufferings of the residents are far from over as the construction work is going on at a snail’s pace and there are no indications as to when the road will be finally completed.

Some residents of Goralane said, “When the construction work began we were happy but till now our sufferings are far from over.”

She said that the road is in bad shape and when they inquired from the labourers as to when the construction will finish, the labourers had no idea.

Residents said many vehicles plying on the road had fallen into the roadside drain while negotiating very bad road condition.

“We don’t know what is going on right now,” another resident said while urging the authorities to ensure that the construction work is expedited at the earliest.

Local legislator, Ampareen Lyngdoh also lamented that the work was progressing very slowly and it was affecting the residents.

A visit to the road also showed that the road construction work was indeed very slow and far from being over.
