SHILLONG: The weather on Saturday played a spoilsport on the first day of the Hills Festival 2018 delaying it for four hours.
The two-day festival to support local talent started at 5pm instead of 1pm. However, this did not deter music enthusiasts to flock to the venue at Barapani.
Festoons and decorations around the lake and the nip in the air were enough to re-energise the audience who had been waiting since afternoon.
The festival started with folk songs where Leonard and the Folk enthralled the audience. “His voice is so breathtaking that listening to his songs in Khasi was an experience,” said a young member of the audience.
Next in the line-up was Kabir Live, a band that performed songs from rock to hip-hop. The band members rocked the crowd.
Rum and Monkeys, the next band, started with Ezra’s Budapest and they made it their own rendition. Their interaction with the crowd made the group an instant hit.
O’SOM and Banrap Lyngdoh had a different thing altogether. From rap to Indie, they kept the crowd going. Their slow blues rock performance was stunning.
Lisa Mishra covered Drake’s Passion Fruit and One Dance as well as Ed Sheeran’s A Team.
Her rendition was different from the original. She sang Hindi songs too and her voice was mesmerising.
“The four-hour wait was worth it,” said a group of friends from Shillong.
