MAWKYRWAT: In a major boost to the National People’s Party (NPP) ahead of the upcoming 2019 council election, former MDC of Mawkyrwat and KHNAM leader, Enbin K Raswai and his supporters joined the party without any condition in a meeting on Saturday.
It may be mentioned that the general meeting of the KHNAM Mawkyrwat Constituency which was held on September 5 has unanimously decided to leave the KHNAM and join the NPP.
In the meeting, almost all the leaders of the KHNAM as well as leaders of the primary units joined the National People’s Party in the presence of party president of South West Khasi Hills District, Kitborlang Nongrem and other leaders.
Speaking at the meeting, Raswai said that he and all the leaders of the KHNAM, Mawkyrwat as well as the leaders of the primary units have joined the National People’s Party without any condition, as the intention was to fully support any candidate of the party in the upcoming council election.
Expressing happiness over the coalition, Nongrem said “Now the National People’s Party in Mawkyrwat as well as in Ranikor is stronger than before and we will put a good fight in the upcoming council election and we have high hope of winning.”
Asked about the candidate of the party for the upcoming election from Mawkyrwat Constituency, Nongrem said that till now the party at the Block-level has not decided about the candidate but most of the leaders and supporters of the party favour former Congress leader, Diverland Lyngdoh.
“Most of the leaders wanted Lyngdoh to contest the election, but I cannot say to whom the ticket will go because it has to be decided by the party,” Nongrem said.
It may be mentioned that Raswai had unsuccessfully contested the 2018 general election from the KHNAM after he was denied ticket by the HSPDP.
