SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has termed as a good gesture the appointment of veteran politician DD Lapang as the chief advisor to the government.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Tynsong said such an elderly leader like Lapang is an asset and he will be able to guide the government and the state due to his vast experience.
He also cited an example when former chief minister BB Lyngdoh was given a political appointment when Lapang was the chief minister in 2003. To a question, Tynsong said it was up to Lapang to decide whether to join NPP or other political parties.
Mukul slammed for transfer comment
Tynsong also termed as childish the remark of CLP leader Mukul Sangma that MDA had resorted to frequent transfers of officers.
According to Tynsong, when Mukul was the chief minister, the BDO of Umsning was transferred in January 2018 after he was appointed in September the previous year.
Likewise, the previous government took a decision to transfer the block headquarters from Khliehriat to Lumshnong due to political considerations.
