SHILLONG: The Maraks’ house in Motinagar was eerily quiet on Monday evening after the news of Clement Marak reached the family here.
Relatives and well-wishers gathered at the Maraks’ residence late in the evening. Some of his relatives were busy preparing for the arrival of the body on Tuesday.
“It is a big loss for us,” said Melisita Marak, the sister-in-law of Marak.
Melisita said the family was in shock because Marak, though was ailing, was fine before going to Delhi.
“He was walking around and he was normal,” she said and added that Marak was supposed to come back but the family had no idea how his condition deteriorated.
Melisita informed that his haemoglobin was slightly low but it had picked up and “he was normal”.
She said they wanted to keep Marak in his Motinagar house before going to Garo Hills because “he was in love with this house and he always wanted to stay here”.
A close associate of the family seconded Melisita saying Marak was normal and he went to drop him to Guwahati airport before flying to New Delhi.
The associate during an informal discussion said Marak had even called him up around a week ago and asked him to complete certain works.
“I just don’t know what went wrong suddenly,” he added.
