SHILLONG: The Congress has urged the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to cut the tax on petrol and diesel by another Rs. 2.50 paise since the Union finance Minister Arun Jaitley had cut the tax by Rs. 2.50 paise.
The Opposition Chief Whip and Congress MLA P T Sawkmie, in a statement issued here on Tuesday said if the state government reduces tax, the price of petrol and diesel will come down by Rs 5 and this will be a huge relief to the consumers in the state.
“However, it is very unfortunate that the present government has not done anything to relieve the consumers unlike many states in the country which had reduced the tax as advised by the finance Minister.
“Since the union finance minister advised, it is the duty of the state government to follow the instruction”, Sawkmie said.
