Medals galore for Garo Hills in martial arts tourney

TURA: A team of fighters from Garo Hills has once again done the region proud by winning medals in the recently concluded 3rd Annual National Martial Arts Games and Festival, 2018, organized by the Chinese Shaolin Kungfu Federation (CSKF) in collaboration with the Bilcham Martial Arts Academy (BMAA) at Guwahati in Assam.

The tournament organized under the banner of the Global International Martial Arts Federation was held at Sports Authority of India (SAI) Open Boxing Ring and Bhugeswari Phukanani Indoor Stadium in Guwahati.

In the tournament 5 Gold medals, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze medals were bagged by the Garo Hills team. The medal winners include Vishal Hajong (Gold and Silver) in both Taekwondo and Muay Thai in the Senior 58 Kg category, Rikkam P Marak (Silver) in the Senior 54 Kg Kick Boxing category, Debesh Hajong (Gold) in Muay Thai 48 Kg Junior category, Uday Hajong (Bronze) in Muay Thai 49 Kg Junior category, Balkam T Sangma (Gold) in Kick Boxing 45 Kg Senior category, Lickinson M Sangma (Gold and Bronze) in both Kick Boxing and Muay Thai in the 66 Kg Senior category and Rakchon R Marak (Gold and Silver) in both Kick Boxing and Kungfu in the 55 Kg Senior category.

As part of the event, the International Referee and Judge Seminar, International Seminar in Traditional Muay Boran and Muay Thai Advance Training Camp was also held during which several fighters from the Garo Hills delegation also participated.
