SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Body Builders’ Association (MBBA) bemoaned the lack of support from the state government for body builders competing in several competitions in the national and international platforms.
General secretary of the association, Arnold M. Lanong said the fund from the government had stopped for the last two years and the body builders were spending from their own.
Balaphrang Kharshiing, who secured the fifth position in the 52nd Asian Body Building and Physique Sports Championship, Pune and Jessica Claudia Bamon who bagged the silver medal at the same tournament asserted they were not getting much help from the state government.
“It is an expensive sport but we compete every year,”Kharshiing said adding that players from other states are getting necessary assistance from their respective state governments.
Lanong informed that Kharshiing and Bamon were selected to compete in World Body-Builders Championship in Thailand in December 28-30.
The MBBA informed that the 44th State Body Building and Yoga Championship would be held on October 13 in the Aurobindo Institute of Indian Culture at Bivar Road.
