GUWAHATI: Assam government on Thursday released Rs one crore for promotion of national  award-winning feature film  of Rima Das “Village Rockstars” which has been selected to represent India in the Best Foreign Language category at the 91st Academy Awards next year.

The coming-of-age film follows Dhunu, a girl who grows up in poverty and learns to fend for herself. However, that does not prevent her from following her dream of forming a rock band and owning a guitar someday.

Filmmaker Rima Das has been appealing for financial assistance to promote her film before the jury of Academy Awards as she would require about Rs three crore for the purpose. Assam government on Thursday released the Rs one crore it had promised to the filmmaker.
