JOWAI: KSU, Jaintia Hills Units along with the president of the Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong who is also the former KSU leader opposed the setting up of a Temple at Wapung C& RD in Khliehriat, East Jaintia Hills.
“How can the District Administration allow a religious infrastructure to be built up in a public land. This is purely a violation of the constitution. No worshipping place can be built in a government land,” said KSU leader, SS Niangti. He said thet Khliehriat is a very young district and still needs land for infrastructures and despites that, a land was allotted to the Hindu community to build a Mandir.
Niangti also informed that the office of the DTO, Sales Tax and also the District Sports Office are still functioning from rented houses in Khliehriat area just because the government could not afford to buy land.
“When the government could not afford to buy land for itself, we are shocked to know that it has allotted land which belongs to the public for constructing a Mandir”, the KSU leader said.
The KSU has threatened to take up the issue by itself if the government fails to stop the construction.
