Mairang church wants Swadesh Darshan Scheme

SHILLONG: A delegation from St. Thomas Catholic Church Mairang gave the Health Minister, AL Hek a copy of the application they submitted to Union Tourism Minister K J Alphons last year on the Swadesh Darshan Scheme to promote religious tourism.
The secretary of development committee of St. Thomas Parish, Ricardus Iawphniaw said there was an assurance from the union minister to assist St. Thomas with Rs 2.64 lakh from Swadesh Darshan to construct a multi-purpose hall at Mairang.
He said that till date, the assurance is pending and hence the delegation met the health minister to get an update on the scheme.
When asked as to why they met the health minister when they should have approached the state tourism minister Metbah Lyngdoh, Iawphniaw said Hek, who is a BJP MLA had campaigned for the BJP candidate for Mairang during the Assembly elections.
Besides, Hek has close association with the BJP at the Centre.
