SHILLONG: The NPP’s turnaround in Jaintia Hills in the February election has given hope to the party to achieve similar feat in the district council polls next year.
Talking to media persons here on Friday, Jowai MLA and NPP leader Wailadmiki Shylla said people in Jowai “are very happy with the performance of the NPP-led government and many people are looking forward to joining the party”.
The party in Jaintia Hills has already started organising its different wings, Shylla said.
In the last Assembly elections, the NPP won three out of seven seats in Jaintia Hills. Three seats went to the UDP while the Congress bagged only one seat.
The minister, while pointing out that the Congress had a stronghold in Jaintia Hills but the situation has changed, said the party has supporters in all district council constituencies and it wants to field candidates in every constituency. “But the party leadership will take the final call,” he added.
