JOWAI: A 29-year-old woman’s body with her throat slit was found in a rented house at Riatsasim of Iawmusiang locality here on Thursday night.
West Jaintia Hills police suspect that Daphibanker Phawa’s throat was slashed with a sharp weapon, maybe a Khasi knife. Her body was found on the bed covered with blood. This is the second murder in less than seven months and police are yet to make headway in the earlier case that took place in Khliehriat.
Phawa and her three children lived on rent in the house owned by her husband’s mother. She taught in a private school in Jowai, the police said.
Her 30-year-old husband, Shwa-miki Law, was admitted in a local hospital with a minor slit on his neck, the police said and added that they were informed around 11.30pm. Law is the prime suspect in the case.
A 30-year-old woman was killed in a similar manner in the first week of April. Fullness Lyngdoh’s body was found in her bedroom with her throat slit. Though the Meghalaya State Commission for Women had intervened for thorough and fast investigation, no arrest has been made till date.
The district police said they are investigating the murder of Phawa.
