SHILLONG: Former Chief Minister DD Lapang has ruled out contesting any election in future including the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Lapang, who has been recently appointed the chief advisor to the Meghalaya government, however, is keenly following the political development.
There are talks about putting up a common candidate by the MDA for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat but Lapang said he is not interested in contesting polls any more.
According to Lapang, he has already decided not to contest any more election from the last Assembly polls when he paved the way for the new entrant and his trusted aide, Mayralborn Syiem, the current MLA of Nongpoh from the Congress.
When asked about his interest in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, Lapang said, “I did not contest from Nongpoh in the last election. Then where is the question of contesting all 36 Assembly seats in 2019,” Lapang said.
Shillong Lok Sabha seat consists of 36 Assembly segments in Khasi-Jaintia Hills.
To a question on joining NPP after he was made the chief advisor to the coalition government, Lapang said he would serve the state in whatever capacity.
“We will see, I cannot comment anything about it now,” Lapang added.
