Shillong Autumn Festival to be held after 5 years
SHILLONG: The city’s most loved festival – The Shillong Autumn Festival is set to return after a 5 years hiatus and will be held on the October 26 and 27 at the Water Sports Complex, Orchid Resort in Umiam from 1:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Opus Productions, a newly formed event management and event services provider has taken the initiative to bring back the festival to the people and to give tourists another reason to visit the state during this festive period. This year’s festival will focus on promoting culture, artistes, fashion, handicrafts and cuisines with a dash of popular western and contemporary music including games and kids’ area for a great family outing. The event will also have a Gen X stage which will be open to upcoming artistes to showcase their talent to a wider audience. Some of the events scheduled for the festival include performances by Dj Albin Meyers (Sweden), Avora Records (Winner- Hornbill Festival), Ethnic Fashion Show by NIFT, cultural performances including Rida and the Musical Folks, a Down Memory Lane concert, a Michael Jackson Tribute concert, Blue Temptation, Roots Reggae Band, Black Jack and others. Tickets for the festival are available at The Grub, Dylan’s Café, Melody Music Store, House of Frozen Food, 3 Pines Café, Open Up Café and Mellow Mood Café. Entry fee will not be charged for children below the age of 10.
Two injured in separate hit and run cases in city
SHILLONG: Two persons were involved in separate hit and run incidents on Friday after which the victims were taken to Civil Hospital for treatment. Kitboklang Kharsyntiew (36) sustained injuries after a truck rammed his motorcycle at Mawlai Nongkwar around 10:47 pm. The victim was taken to Civil Hospital by a Lawmali-based 108 ambulance. Raj Kumar Das (46) was knocked down by a tourist vehicle at Rilbong around 9:00 pm. The vehicle fled the scene leaving the victim with minor injuries. The victim was taken to Civil Hospital by a city-based 108 ambulance.
Inter college quiz held in Tura
SHILLONG: With an aim to create awareness on climate change and sustainable future, ICFAI University Meghalaya, Tura campus organised its 1st Inter College Quiz Competition inside the college campus on Friday. A total of seven institutions from Tura participated in the competition where Tura United Christian Academy emerged as the winner while Tura Christian Girl’s Higher Secondary School bagged the runners-up trophy. “The idea of the competition was to incite amongst the youth a quest for knowledge on environment and climate change,” said Viola Sonachi B. Sangma, dean of ICFAI University Meghalaya, Tura.
