Manipur univ bodies condemn handcuffing of jailed professor
Imphal: Three university bodies in Manipur on Sunday condemned the alleged handcuffing of a jailed university professor while being taken to a hospital, a press release said. The Joint Action Committee of the MUSU, MUSA and MUTA at an emergency meeting considered the action as an “insulting treatment of members of the university community,” the press release issued by Manipur University Students Union, Manipur University Teachers Association and Manipur University Staffs Association said. They also demanded immediate release of the 15 jailed students and teachers of the varsity. Police confirmed that the professor had been handcuffed and rules were observed in this case. “Irrespective of charges, an accused is handcuffed while being taken to a hospital,” a police official said on condition of anonymity. Chopper ride for Puja revellers in Tripura
Agartala: A chopper ride for Durga Puja revellers for an aerial view of the festival here and its adjoining areas has been arranged by the Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC).”We are offering the ride for three days on Saptami, Navami and Dashami and the duration of the ride will be for 25 minutes,” TRTC Chairman Deepak Majumder told reporters here Sunday. An eight-seater chopper has been allotted for the ride and 16 tickets will be issued every day from the Krishnanagar bus depot from tomorrow, Majujmder said. (PTI)

Gauhati HC issues notices to govt, police over DSP suspension
Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court has issued notices to the Assam government and police over an alleged conspiracy to suspend a deputy superintendent of police. Accepting a writ petition filed by Nagaon Deputy SP Sabita Das, who was placed under suspension for allegedly asking for a bribe, the high court issued notices to eight parties Friday. The court of Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak issued notices to the Assam government, home secretary, home and political secretary, director general of police, additional DGP (administration), additional DGP (law and order), Nagaon superintendent of police and Nagaon Sadar police station officer-in-charge. The petition by Das was filed on October 9 and was accepted three days later. (PTI)
