SHILLONG: People’s Democratic Front (PDF) MLA and Cabinet Minister, Hamlet Dohling said the party will wait for the report of the sub-committee which has been entrusted with the task to give recommendations for smooth functioning of the party.
Dohling, who is a member of the sub-committee along with other MLAs-Banteidor Lyngdoh who is also an MDC, Gavin Mylliemngap and Jason Mawlong, said the committee will find a loophole in the contentious circumstance.
Cracks surfaced in the party, which was launched on March 31 last year, when 8 MDCs shifted allegiance to the Khasi Hills Democratic Alliance led by NPP MDC HS Shylla reducing the opposition to only two MDCs – PDF chairman, PN Syiem and PDF MDC Grace Kharpuri.
The five PDF MDCs who shifted allegiance recently are Banteidor Lyngdoh who is also a member of the sub-committee, Hadrian Lyngdoh, Arbinus Lyngdoh, Morningstar Mawsor, James Ban Basaiawmoit. The PDF MDCs who are executive members (EMs) in the KHADC are Latiplang Kharkongor, Blanding Warjri and James Sylliang.
According to Dohling, the party will grow in maturity from the lessons learnt in the rifts even as the members of the party should edify each other for the welfare of the party.
“Things will have to be sorted out in the party. It cannot be denied that there is some minor misunderstanding in the party and no party is free from misunderstandings,” he said.
He informed that the sub-committee will meet shortly to discuss party matters.
With no Anti-Defection Law in the KHADC, Dohling rued that political parties face the inevitable backlash of MDCs defecting from one party to the other.
