SHILLONG: The verdict on Bangladeshi politician Salahuddin Ahmed who was arrested for entering Shillong without valid documents in May 2015 was deferred to October 26 here on Monday.
The court of the judicial magistrate (first class) of Meghalaya deferred its judgment on the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader for the third time in a row.
The dates for the earlier two hearings were August 13 and October 15.
Ahmed, while coming out of the court, refused to comment.
The hearing was deferred as the public prosecutor had sought for an adjournment.
Ahmed, the then communications minister during the BNP government under Khaleda Zia from 2001-06, was arrested on May 1, 2015, from Golf Link area after people alerted the authorities. Police had registered a case against him under the Foreigners Act on charges of illegally entering India after he failed to produce his travel documents.
The court had granted him bail on June 5, 2015, adding that the trial of the case is already over.
Ahmed had claimed that he was kidnapped by some unidentified persons in Bangladesh and dumped in Shillong blindfolded.
