SHILLONG: With frequent border skirmishes in violation of the status quo, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma is expected to meet his Assam counterpart Sarbananda Sonowal shortly to iron out the differences.
The meeting will be called since there is violation of status quo by the Assam government.
A senior government official said on Monday that though Sangma had met Sonowal at various forums, the border dispute was not discussed officially.
There was a series of reports on border unrest recently and the matter had figured during the Assembly session in September.
According to the agreement arrived at during the meeting of the previous chief ministers, both Assam and Meghalaya should consult each other before initiating any development works in the border.
However, Assam has violated this agreement very often as Meghalaya was in the dark about construction activities in the border, the official added.
The government expects that the chief ministerial level meeting will help to discuss the pending issues towards finding a viable solution.
