SHILLONG: As many as 125 police men have lost their lives till date as the Meghalaya police are set to observe the commemoration day on Sunday.
A statement by DGP R P Agarwal said on Saturday that police commemoration day will be held on Sunday to pay tribute to the martyrs of police, central armed police forces and other sister organisations who sacrificed their lives at the altar of duty.
“Meghalaya police till date lost 125 men while maintaining law and order and security of nation,” he said.
According to Agarwal, their supreme sacrifice of martyrdom has not gone in vain as the state is experiencing peace.
The DGP said floral wreaths will be placed by senior police officers in all the district headquarters with full guard of honour on this occasion in memory of the departed martyrs, whose names are read out by the district superintendents of police in a ceremonial parade.
“On this solemn occasion, we pledge to continue to serve the people of the nation with dignity, commitment and dedication and to maintain public order and integrity of the nation,” the statement added.
