MAWKYRWAT: Four persons, including two minors, were arrested from South West Khasi Hills on Friday in connection with an attempt to murder case in Ranikor. The arrested persons were members of a newly formed outfit called A’chik National Socialist Council (ANSC), which the police termed as an “extortion group”.
South West Khasi Hills police chief HG Lyngdoh said on Saturday that on October 13, Kaisarlin Nongphlang (25) of Shnongkalong village in Ranikor escaped an attempted murder by four unidentified persons who hired his car from Nongjri saying they needed to go to Alikwareng near Ranikor as one of their children is sick.
“On reaching Ranikor-Alikwareng junction, the miscreants attempted to kill the driver by slitting his throat but he managed to fight back and escaped while the miscreants fled,” Lyngdoh said.
“Yesterday (On Friday) two suspects, including a 17-year-old boy and a person identified as Hemarson M Sangma (30) of Joiram village under Mawsynram police station in East Khasi Hills, were detained from Rajaju area, South West Khasi Hills, and after interrogation they admitted that they have committed the crime with the motive to kill the driver and rob or to take away the car,” the SP added.
The SP informed that with the leading of Hemarson, police conducted a raid at Hurupukni village under Dangar Outpost in East Khasi Hills on Friday night and arrested two other co-accused, including a 15-year-old boy and a person identified as Jolin R Sangma (18) alias Jotin (recently released from jail).
“From their possession, 10 demand notes of the A’chik National Socialist Council (which they were planning to form extortion group) were recovered,” Lyngdoh said, adding that during interrogation they confessed that Jolin was the one who tried to cut the throat of the taxi driver.
