SHILLONG: Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) CEM HS Shylla said the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP)  will ensure peace in the state.

Speaking to reporters, he said ILP would boost self-employment opportunities. “Vehicles ferrying tourists will be asked to stop on reaching Shillong from which point the local taxis will take the tourists,” he said.

He added it has no communal colour but will address the “genuine fear of being outnumbered. There will not be any fear psychosis and will take out the fear from the heart of the people.”

According to him, tourism will not be affected and said, “There will be an increase in footfall as it will be safe for them (the tourists). The locals will instead welcome them.”

He said the KHADC would have to recruit personnel to man the check-gate.

Shylla informed that the KHADC would move a resolution to resolution to urge the Governor to notify the Inner Line Permit (ILP) which is derived from Bengal Eastern Frontier (Regulation), 1873 to be implemented in the Scheduled areas.

According to Shylla, the revenue generated from ILP would be increased and also another avenue of employment for the youth.

Making use of technology, he said, people can also download online forms.

He said the state government directed the KHADC to take necessary action after the government had forwarded a letter to the KHADC based on demand of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council’s demand for ILP.
