SHILLONG: A section of traditional heads from Pynursla has welcomed the creation of Sohra district provided the headquarters is made at Elaka Laitlyngkot.
The traditional heads comprised Sordar from Raid Shabong, Sordar Raid Lyngkhat, Sordar Raid Rangnah, Sordar Mukertila, Sordar Raid Mawlam, Sordar Raid Mawshun, Sordar Raid Nongkhlieng who petitioned Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong.
Sordar of Raid Lyngkhat KK Tangsang told reporters that they met Tynsong on October 16 to press for Laitlyngkot as the headquarters.
The traditional heads asserted that “it is for the convenience of people and smooth functioning of Pynursla civil sub-division and Sohra civil sub-division”.
In the letter to Tyngsong, the traditional heads unanimously said people of Riwar Mihngi under Pynursla would oppose inclusion of the civil sub-division in the newly proposed South East District Sohra. Further, the letter also stated that the decision made by the traditional heads “will be taken as the decision of the Riwar Mihngi people”.
It may be mentioned that Dorbar of the Elaka Umniuh-Tmar Sirdarship has also decided not to accept the inclusion of Elaka Umniuh-Tmar in the proposed Sohra district.
