Twelve killed during Durga puja in Tripura

Agartala: The week-long Durga puja celebration passed off with some minor criminal incidents, road accident, three murders and an incident of alleged tension between tribal and Muslim. As many as nine pendal hopers died in road accident in last seven days in different parts of Tripura while three persons including a housewife were allegedly murdered during the period. According to police, all the persons died in road accident were found intoxicated and became victim due to rush and negligent driving. According to report, Animesh Chakraborty (33) of Bikhora in South Tripura was allegedly murdered in connection with illegal drug trade. A couple was found dead in Kalirampara area of Melaghar of West Tripura. Both the bodies were found hanging in a rubber estate in two spots. The victim family alleged that they were murdered and later the body was hanged up to show it a suicide case. On the day of ‘Maha Shasti’, the body of one Manik Lal Sarkar, a group-D employee in judicial service was found at the Bypass road under Amatali police station with multiple injuries and his motor bike was also found in pieces. On the day of ‘Maha Asthami’ two motor bike riders killed at Fatikroy area of Kumarghat, when their motor bikes collided face on in heavy speed. They were identified as Dhirendra Sabdakar (40) and Nirmal Paul (32). On the day of ‘Maha Nabami’, another motor bike rider identified as Abhijit Das (21) of Nandan Nagar area of Agartala was dashed by a speeding Indica car at Lembucherra area and killed him on the spot. On the day of ‘Dashami’ one middle aged by-cycle rider was killed in road rage at Halflong area under Dharmanagar police station. (UNI)
