SHILLONG: The National People’s Party (NPP) has denied the speculation that former Congress leader, D D Lapang would be contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as a party candidate.

Talking to media persons in Shillong on Tuesday after two BJP leaders and a former MDC joined the party, NPP State president, WR Kharlukhi reiterated that the party had not even invited application from the probable candidates for the Lok Sabha polls.

Earlier, he also downplayed the reported threat from the UDP to the MDA coalition saying that there is no consensus among the MDA allies for a common candidate in the Lok Sabha polls.

Kharlukhi maintained that the alliance was yet to discuss the issue of common candidates and issue would be discussed in the MDA coordination committee meeting.

Denying any threat to the alliance, he said that threats to the alliance appeared only in media
