SHILLONG: The 11th annual meet of the Franciscan Youth Federation (FYF) North East India was inaugurated on Friday at Saint Francis Mount, Tynsom in Mawthawïang.
The three day programme centered on the theme ‘Youth for Peace and Education’ and was attended by Franciscan Brothers from different centres of North East India, village leaders, church leaders and 500 delegates from 14 FYF units from across the region.
The FYF is a youth wing under the banner of the Society of Franciscan Brothers, North East India. The FYF annual meet honours Saint Francis of Assisi.
In his inaugural address to the gathering Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar expressed his joy in knowing that Shiliang Um-Rilang has been recognized by the Franciscan Brothers.
The event culminated on Sunday with an indigenous cultural show by the different units from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya in the presence of Mawkyrwat MDC Hadrian Lyngdoh and a crowd of about 2500 people.
The event was chaired by the Provincial of the Franciscan Brothers of North East India Br. Herman Wanñiang; Superior of Saint Francis Mount, Mawthawïang Br. Barnabas Lyngdoh; executive members of FYF North East Hamley Marbañiang, Badondor Sawkmie, Jubilee Wahlang and General Councillor of the Franciscan Brothers Br. Collinsius Wanñiang.
