Mairang inclusive school celebrates ten years

NONGSTOIN: Starting with only one student in 2008, Mairang Vidyajyoti Inclusive School, Sangshong has accomplished so much with its ten year journey which was celebrated on Tuesday. The inclusive school presently has an enrolment of 295 with 39 students with disabilities.
Tourism Minister Metbah Lyngdoh lauded the teachers of the school and said that it is very challenging to teach and take care of children with special needs while reiterating that service to mankind is service to God.
Speaking on the occasion of the 10th anniversary celebration of the school, Lyngdoh expressed happiness and satisfaction that the school through many hardships have reached its 10th year. He also said that the success of the school is possible only through the hardwork and dedication of the teachers and various personalities who helped to elevate the school to its present status.
It may be mentioned that Mairang Vidyajyoti Inclusive Secondary School is a project of the Khasi Jaintia Presbyterian Synod Sepngi, under the initiative of the Social & Economic Life Development Department (SELDD) and was started on June 2, 2008 with only one student on the first day. In the initial years the school started with class nursery and KG and upgraded to Class X in 2017. The school sent its first batch of students for the SSLC examination in 2018 and secured 100% pass percentage. All four students passed with second division.
Metbah felicitated the four students, Banlumlang L Nonglait, Kynsaibor L Nonglait, Suktiris L Mairang and Idamanbha Basaiawmoit.
Some of the units under Mairang Vidyajyoti Inclusive School is a day school from class Nursery to class X and Pre Vocational Training Unit I, II & III. The school has an Out Patient Department (OPD)/Home Management Unit.
Earlier in the day, the minister also inaugurated the approach road to the school campus and also released the school souvenir.
