65-year-old arrested for raping a 4-year-old in Tripura
Agartala: A 65-year-old was arrested for allegedly raping a 4-year-old child in North Tripura district, police said on Tuesday. District superintendent of police Bhanupada Chakraborty said that the man had lured the child at Kameswar village by promising to give her chocolate and then raped her on Monday.. The victims mother filed an FIR at Dharmanagar police station on the same day and the perpetrator was arrested immediately. A local court on Tuesday remanded him police custody for three days. The SP said the man was charged under the POCSO Act. (PTI)
More than 3 lakh children vaccinated in Nagaland
Kohima: As part of the Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign, more than three lakh children have been vaccinated in Nagaland, a Health department official said Tuesday. The Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign was launched in the state on October 3 and 3,30, 292 children have been vaccinated till October 22, deputy director in the Health department, Dr Razuokhrieu Rio said. He said that the vaccination was conducted in 2,686 schools through 1,086 outreach sessions. Health department sources said that the vaccination percentage in the state as of now stands at 73.64 per cent. The vaccination campaign will go on till the first week of November, Rio added. (PTI)
Assam professor bags national science academy teachers award
Guwahati: Tezpur University professor Ashis Mukherjee has been awarded the prestigious “Indian National Science Academy (INSA) Teachers Award (2018)” for his consistent and high-level of teaching, and inspiring and mentoring students to take up careers in Science and Technology. Prof Mukherjee is the Dean of Research and Development, the Head and Coordinator of Department of Biotechnology (DBT) Nodal Cell for Medical Colleges and Biomedical Research Institutes of northeastern India, a release issued by the University said Tuesday. The award founded by INSA, New Delhi is one of the highest recognition for science and technology teachers in the country. He will be formally conferred the award at the Anniversary General Meeting of the Academy in December 2018. Mukherjee has also received Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) in Biotechnology from Calcutta University and the Visitor’s (President of India is the visitor of all central universities of India) Award for Research in Basic and Applied Sciences-2018 from the President of India at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi, the release added. 108 films from 52 nations to be screened in 2nd GIFF
Guwahati: As many as 108 acclaimed films from over 50 countries will be screened in the second edition of the Guwahati International Film Festival, which will begin on October 25. The seven-day film extravaganza is likely to see participation of about 45 foreign delegates, including eight Ambassadors, and nearly 5,000 domestic movie buffs. “We are ready with all our preparations. In total, 108 films from 52 countries will be screened in this festival. We hope, this will be more successful than the last year’s edition,” 2nd Guwahati International Film Festival (GIFF) 2018 Artistic Director Rahul Jain told PTI here. Nearly 35 film personalities from abroad will take part with their flicks, while Ambassadors from Lithuania, Myanmar, Argentina, Latvia, Estonia, Serbia, Singapore and Malaysia are likely to be present, he added. “In terms of delegates, over 3,800 have so far have registered. In the next two days, we hope to touch the figure of 5,000,” Jain said. The Assam Government-owned Jyoti Chitraban Society is the organiser of the festival, which will be held from October 25 to 31, in association with Dr Bhupen Hazarika Regional Government Film and Television Institute. Eminent filmmakers Buddhadeb Dasgupta and Shaji N Karun will be the chief guests during opening and closing ceremonies of the festival respectively. The 2nd GIFF will begin with streaming of the National Award winning Director Jahnu Barua’s Assamese film. (PTI)
