SHILLONG: The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes will investigate non-allotment of hostel accommodation to married doctors at NEIGRIHMS based on a complaint by Dr Synrang Batngen Warjri of the Department of Cardiology who has blamed the director for the fiasco.
Minakshi Sharma, the assistant director of the Commission, in a letter to NEIGRIHMS Director DM Thappa, has asked for information and action taken report within 15 days of the notice failing which the panel will issue summons.
The Commission has the power under Article 338A to investigate such issues.
In his letter in June this year, Warjri had alleged that for the past two years, he had been staying in a hostel meant for bachelor resident doctors.
The letter said he had applied for a quarter earlier and after waiting for two years, the allotment committee, which is in existence since 2007, suggested his name keeping in mind that he is married and his wife is pregnant.
Talking about the “suffering at the hand of the present director”, Warjri had said in his letter that due to unknown reasons, the director “singlehandedly cancelled my accommodation”.
“I tried to meet him for the same issue but as usual he is not interested to give an ear and treated me in the most insensitive way possible by an administrator. In this regard, I do feel he has a tendency to harass tribal students for reasons known only to him,” he had written.
