SHILLONG: The by-election for Selsella seat, which fell vacant after the death of Clement Marak, has to be filled before March next year.
Talking to media persons here on Wednesday, Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor said the commissioner and secretary of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly has already notified the vacancy and the Election Department has forwarded the letter to the Election Commission.
He said the vacancy has to be filled within six months but added that it would be difficult to say the date or month now.
Replying to a query about electoral rolls, the CEO said summary revision is going on and electoral rolls will be published in the early part of January.
When asked about the concerns over D-voters raised by pressure groups in Meghalaya, Kharkongor said the Election Commission has a “de-duplication software” to detect dual entries even as he added that officials are checking documents at the time of enrolment. The department also has electoral roll observers.
