SHILLONG: The state government will challenge the recent order of the single bench of the High Court of Meghalaya on the pension benefits to various categories of teachers.
Justice SR Sen had on October 11 ordered the government to provide pension to teachers of government-aided or ad hoc schools, deficit schools and colleges as per the recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission with retrospective effect.
However, a senior government official said the order will be challenged in the division bench as the financial liability will be huge.
Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said on Thursday the department is studying the court order. He said the government would be requiring over Rs 1,500 crore to pay the pension as per the court order.
