SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on Friday approved all the four bills which were introduced day before.
The council passed the Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Inner Line as adopted from the Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873) Regulation Bill, 2018, Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Khasi Social Custom of Lineage) (First Amendment), Bill, 2018, the United Khasi-Jaintia Hills District (Establishment of Town Committee) (Second Amendment) Rules 2018, and the Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Constitution of Subordinate Council of Traditional Chiefs and headmen) Rules, 2018, on the first day of the special session on Thursday.
HSPDP MDC Manstudy Nongrem proposed an amendment to the town committee rules that states, “Provided that in any area where no town committee has been notified, the Executive Committee, on the application of any individual for building permission, may after enquiry by an authorised officer, direct any nearest notified Town Committee to issue building permission with approval of the Executive Member in charge Town Committee or any authorised officer.”
The new proviso was unanimously accepted by KHADC members attending the special session.
Speaking to reporters, KHADC CEM HS Shylla said, “It will take some time for the Legislative wing to complete some formalities and then send (the bills) to the governor.”
