Talks on common candidate inconclusive

SHILLONG: The MDA alliance partners will hold discussions with their respective central leaderships on fielding common candidates in Shillong and Tura Lok Sabha seats, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said after the coordination committee meeting on Monday.
Refusing to divulge the minutes of the meeting, the chief minister said that the allies expressed their views and after discussions with their higher-ups, the parties would “get back to the alliance”.
The meeting of the MDA coordination committee, which is held once a month, also discussed if there is any concern or difficulty of the partners and how to improve coordination and communication among them.
The UDP, which is a major partner in the alliance, wants its candidate to be fielded as a common candidate in Shillong while it wants NPP to field a common candidate in Tura.
