SHILLONG: The state government on Tuesday faced a fiery spell of attack from Opposition leader Mukul Sangma who termed the MDA government as incompetent and blamed it for “messing up everything”.
Referring to the Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) which has been discontinued to pave way for the Ayushman Bharat or Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, Mukul alleged that the state government was not bothered about the crucial health sector and was indifferent to the sufferings of the people.
Because of the discontinuation of the scheme many families will fall in a death trap, he said while asking the state government to revive the MHIS at the earliest.
Infirm and single
mothers ignored
Continuing his attack on the government, Sangma said the current dispensation has failed to take care of infirm and single mothers in the state by not extending benefits of the Chief Minister Special Assistance Scheme.
Recalling that the Assembly had given its nod to supplementary grants for Chief Minister Special Assistance Scheme for infirm and single mothers, Sangma wanted to know why the beneficiaries were not being taken care of and wondered if the sanctioned money was being diverted elsewhere.
‘Govt facilitating illegal mining’
The former chief minister on Tuesday reiterated his claim that the state government was facilitating illegal coal mining in the state.
Expressing surprise that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had recently given clean chit to the government on the issue, Mukul asked the chief minister to take full responsibility in case the allegations on illegal coal mining are proved.
‘Them Metor exposes govt failure’
The former chief minister was also critical of the MDA government for failing to bring normalcy in Them Metor (Harijan Colony).
Even after months of the incident, barricades continue to be seen in the area which has affected movement of traffic, Mukul stated, while blaming the government for being passive on the issue.
