SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has finally declared its former legislator, Jemino Mawthoh as the common Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) candidate of the UDP from Shillong seat in the next Lok Sabha polls

With the UDP having gone ahead with declaring the candidate, another hurdle for Mawthoh is the approval of his candidature by the MDA partners.

The other constituents in the MDA are: “People’s Democratic Front (PDF), Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Addressing the reporters on Tuesday, vice-president of the UDP, Allantry Dkhar said, “After a lot of thought and deliberations in the past, it is finally decided that Dr Jemino Mawthoh is the Lok Sabha polls candidate of United Democratic Party from Shillong seat.”

Dkhar expressed optimism that the confidence of the party is at the highest level and that the matter materialised from the time the UDP mooted for the common candidate.
