Senior Citizens Act should be implemented

SHILLONG: Shillong Senior Citizens Forum (SSCF) called for proper implementation of Senior Citizens Act, 2007 and enhancement of old-age pension.
President of the forum Herman Nongrum said the members will follow up on the implementation of the Central Act in the state.
Vice president Khrawboklang Basaiawmoit said the forum is also willing to extend its help to youngsters considering the varied experiences the senior citizens have in their respective fields.
Nongrum said it will share information with the public at large through periodicals/print media in furtherance of its aims and objectives. It also aims to raise funds and acquire properties by loans or grants from public, governmental and non-governmental agencies, banks and other financial institution in order to achieve the aforesaid objectives.
He informed that the constitution of the forum is yet to be in place. The area of operation will be greater Shillong areas and the whole of East Khasi Hills.
