NONGPOH: The Nongpoh Region Auto Owners and Driver Association (NRAO&DA) in a meeting held here on Friday unanimously decided to hike the auto fare by Rs. 5 from the previous rates which have been in place since 2012.

However, the price hike will not affect those commuting within Nongpoh area and the aged persons. The hiked prices will be effective  but only for those areas where the distance from Nongpoh is more than three kilometers.   President of the NRAO&DA, Marcus Marten informed that the price hike would be effective from Monday, November 5.

Marten also stated that the price hike was due to the increasing  prices of petrol and diesel which have badly affected not just the commercial vehicles but even the farmers and people at large.

It may be mentioned here that the Association had on September 20 this year organised a rally at Nongpoh to protest the increasing price of petrol and diesel.
