Training on detergent making held for women at Zikzak

TURA: A two-day Production-focused Training Program on making of detergent, repellants, shampoo and umbrellas, was conducted for Women Self-help Group (SHG) by Garo Hills-based NGO, BAKDIL at Zikzak Block in South West Garo Hills on October 31 and November 1, 2018.

More than 50 women participated in the training and learned the production process and the actual cost involved in making products like washing powder, shampoo, phenyl, etc. During the two-day training, these women were trained to make more than 17 items which is used by every household in their day-to-day daily lives. All these products were handmade and no machinery or power consumption was required, therefore the women found it very easy to adopt these activities for income generation.

Participating in the program on the concluding day, South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ramkumar S. addressed the trainee SHG women with words of motivation saying “Success is a commitment not a wish”, and encouraged them to take these production activities on a bigger scale. He also said that if they were interested in taking up these activities in a big way, support would be given from the District Administration side through PMEGP Loan, etc.

Founder & Director of BAKDIL, Fr. Sunny M. informed that the source persons/trainers are professors in Social Work turned social workers from Kerala and that they were conducting similar training programs in seven other blocks at BAKDIL centres.

“We expect to train 350 to 400 women in such activities” he said and informed that after the training at Dalu, the trained women made phenyl and other materials and sold them at Barengapara market on Wednesday. Profitability is more than 100 percent, he added.
